The Hubble Space Telescope entered service in May 1990, launched with STS-31 in April 1990. It still remains operational to this day, after more than 35 years. It is the only telescope designed from the start to be maintained in space by astronauts.
Due to a manufacturing flaw, its outer mirror edge was too flat (by 2.2 microns!) which resulted in the first servicing mission (SM 1, with STS-61 in 1993), fixing this by placing 5 pairs of corrective mirrors using a telephone-booth sized optical correction instrument called COSTAR.
The HST has contributed to many breakthroughs in astrophysics, most notably in determining the rate of expansion of the universe, denoted through Hubble’s constant. Amazing, right?
